On May 8 and 9, 2024, Miami hosted an insightful walkshop titled “Metamorphosis of a District: How the Design District, Midtown, and Wynwood Emerged as Miami’s Preeminent Revitalization Experiments.” This event, held as part of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Conference, was co-led by urban planning experts Juan Mullerat, Graham Jones from the City of Miami, and Cesar Garcia-Pons of Garcia+Pons and Associates, LLC.

Exploring Miami’s Urban Evolution

The walkshop provided attendees with an in-depth exploration of Miami’s former warehouse districts and railyards, which have been transformed into thriving urban centers. Urban planners, architects, and city officials participated in the walkshop, gaining firsthand insights into the revitalization strategies that have shaped these dynamic neighborhoods.

Acknowledgments

A special thank you to the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) team for hosting the event, and to co-leads Cesar Garcia-Pons and Graham Jones. The success of the walkshop was a testament to the collaborative efforts of all involved.
