Fabian de la Espriella
Senior Designer / Planner

I want to help building the future we want to live in.
Fabian De La Espriella, AICP, grew up in Cartagena, Colombia, and was influenced by the traditional layout and Spanish colonial architecture there from a very young age. His passion for traveling since his early years led him to places that fueled his interest and appreciation for accessible and vibrant cities where people walk, bike, and take transit. Fabian has always been passionate about the arts. He recently launched a personal project as a singer-songwriter, where he records and releases his own music.
background / experience / Vision /

Fabian holds a professional degree in Architecture from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and a Master’s in urban and regional Planning with an emphasis in urban design from the University of Florida. As part of his undergraduate architectural studies, Fabian participated in an exchange program and internship with the University of Miami School of Architecture, where he collaborated with renowned professionals such as Jaime Correa.

Before joining the Plusurbia team, Fabian worked as a consultant for Glatting Jackson and Kittelson & Associates. Between 2012 and 2017, he also had the privilege of working as a civil servant for the City of Orlando and the Miami Downtown Development Authority. Throughout his career, he’s been fortunate to collaborate with mentors such as Ian Lockwood and Dan Burden, nationally renowned experts in the livable transportation field. Fabian currently serves as the Chair of the Florida APA Gold Coast Section (Miami Dade and Monroe Counties).

Fabian has over 20 years of experience as an urban planner and transportation planner focusing on urban design and livable transportation projects. Fabian has managed or played a key role in numerous planning studies in Florida and nationwide that integrate land use, urban design, and transportation interventions with policy and market realities. These efforts often establish an urban design direction and clear transportation objectives by emphasizing place-making, walkability, and connectivity. He has led or collaborated on unique and relevant public and private projects, bringing broad experience and understanding in the planning and implementation of multimodal transportation projects. His expertise in urban design, integrated land use and transportation planning, and public involvement have been honored with national, statewide, and local planning awards.

I think of myself as a change agent, and what I do in my profession often results in bringing change to cities. People are shifting to favor community over congestion, urban living over sprawl, and making choices to improve quality of life. As a design and planning professional, I am interested in advancing initiatives to make cities better places to live.
