Project Type: Urban Design + Visioning
Project Status: Adopted
Completed: 2025
Site Area: 1.1 Mi
Team: Plusurbia Design
Just 40 miles north of Charlotte, the South Main Corridor (US-29) serves as a gateway into Downtown Salisbury, NC. As part of the City’s new Corridor Master Plan, Plusurbia was hired to conceptualize future infill and revitalization rooted in Salisbury’s architectural heritage and design cues.
The project focused on urban design and illustrations for five selected sites along a 1.1-mile stretch of the corridor, including a traditional neighborhood development envisioned for the former Cone Mills site and reactivation of the City’s “Five Points” area as a pedestrian-first entertainment district. Multi-use paths, street trees, infill buildings, and the adaptive reuse of vacant structures are envisioned along the entire corridor.
Now integrated into the Master Plan, the renderings will help the City of Salisbury to attract private developers and other groups interested in breathing new life into South Main, creating a future that better serves the entire community. This project aligns with Plusurbia’s commitment to accessible urban design that inspires local vibrancy, investments in quality of life, and real-world action.
