Dalian Harbour City
Dalian, China

Project Type: Urban design
Project Status: Under construction
Completion Date: December 2010
Site Area: 42.6 acres (Phase 1)
Team: PlusUrbia (lead) + studio LFA + Revuelta Architecture International + ACO Design
Client: Vanke

Located in the new Puwan Economic Development area, Harbour City will be the first development design as the reference for the rest of the region. The project covers an area of 104 Ha that is divided into 5 phases with a range of densities between 1.65 and 3.0 FAR. This allows for a wide variety of building typologies such as town homes, garden apartments and 9-30 story high-rises.

With a careful consideration to the visual impact that such development will have on the immediate landscape, PlusUrbia and its consultants carefully laid out the building volumes and the block structure to consistently respect the natural systems that are currently in place.

With that premise, the design implements an overlay of built form that becomes a continuation to nature and the visual richness of the hills rising in the background juxtaposed to the horizontal waterfront by utilizing a layered building system. In the inner harbour of the new Puwan Development Area, Vanke's Dalian Harbour City rises from the shores of a regional park becoming a residential and commercial center of reference in the area.
